Texas rotations for a West Virginia student
TAMUCC's MSN handbook keeps clinical education and training within Texas, and the MSN has no clinical option in any other state. Two West Virginia agencies, and which one covers graduate study
West Virginia's RN board limits itself to pre-licensure education, where a school based elsewhere must win board approval before its students train in West Virginia facilities. Master's and doctoral programs get a different instruction: ask the Higher Education Policy Commission (WVHEPC) and your national accreditor about clinical placement rules.
A WVHEPC nursing office publishes a guide for out-of-state clinical rotations, and it narrows the field. Approval comes into play for an APRN or graduate program from another state in only two situations: its school stands outside NC-SARA, or ten or more of its students cluster at one site. TAMUCC's state authorization page includes West Virginia among its NC-SARA states. Your license, from Huntington to Martinsburg
West Virginia's multistate license dates from January 19, 2018. Hold it with West Virginia as your declared home and it carries a Texas practice privilege, the compact path TAMUCC's MSN admission accepts. Our license page has TAMUCC's wording.
For graduate clinicals inside the state, the same WVHEPC guide sets the license rule: students who live in West Virginia use a West Virginia RN license there, and students living elsewhere need a multistate one. A separate board licenses LPNs. West Virginia has not enacted the APRN Compact, so the Texas APRN license required on the DNP Nurse Practitioner track stays a separate step.
Reduced practice at home, restricted practice in Texas
West Virginia falls under AANP's reduced practice label. New NPs prescribe under a physician collaborative agreement for three years, and Schedule II narcotics may be ordered for no more than three days at a time. Texas is restricted, with each NP prescribing through an agreement with a delegating physician and Schedule II prescribing limited to hospital-based and hospice care. The larger systems are Vandalia Health, which brings together CAMC, Davis Health and Mon Health, plus WVU Medicine and Marshall Health Network. Population centers include Charleston, Morgantown, the West Virginia part of Huntington-Ashland, and the Martinsburg side of Hagerstown-Martinsburg. They illustrate the market and are not TAMUCC sites. No West Virginia preceptor incentive appears in official sources.

Can TAMUCC FNP clinicals happen in West Virginia?
The MSN keeps them in Texas: all four FNP clinical courses and their 630 hours take place at Texas sites TAMUCC's clinical faculty clear. A West Virginian can handle the online coursework without moving, then spend each clinical term in Texas, working mostly weekday business hours.
Would a TAMUCC DNP practicum in West Virginia need state approval?
WVHEPC's guide reviews an out-of-state graduate program only when its school is not SARA-affiliated or it places a group of ten or more at a single location, and TAMUCC lists West Virginia among its SARA states. The larger question is TAMUCC's own: its DNP program must accept hours outside Texas.
Does TAMUCC accept a West Virginia RN license?
A West Virginia multistate license can meet the MSN's call for a compact license with Texas practice authority, provided West Virginia is the home state on it. TAMUCC's certificate page names a Texas nursing license instead, a Texas APRN license is required for the DNP Nurse Practitioner track, and admission rests with TAMUCC.
Will a TAMUCC FNP count for NP licensure in West Virginia?
TAMUCC's disclosure covers West Virginia: the MSN meets the educational requirements for FNP certification nationwide, with four undetermined exceptions: Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, California and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
