NP preceptors in Dallas-Fort Worth and North Texas
Dallas-Fort Worth is the most populous metro in Texas and sits far from TAMUCC's Island campus, so students there build their clinical plans entirely from local systems and practices. The academic medical center opens its request windows months in advance, and the public hospital sends students back to their own schools. Here is how the pieces fit.

UT Southwestern: sponsor first, then the window
UT Southwestern handles APRN students through its Office of Advanced Practice Providers, using an "APP Student Precept Placement Request." The office is explicit that it offers no clinician matching: you line up your own observation sponsor before you apply. A search summary adds that tri-party agreements involving UT Southwestern and Children's Health apply where needed and must be active before the start.

Read that table from the bottom up and the pattern is clear: a spring rotation is decided the summer before. A student hoping to work with a UT Southwestern clinician in NURS 5644 or any other course needs the sponsor confirmed months ahead, with TAMUCC's own agreement and packet steps still to follow.
Baylor Scott & White and Parkland
Baylor Scott & White requires an affiliation agreement with the school and states that the school must be certified by the State of Texas. Students complete a Nursing, PA and Allied Health orientation within the 90 days before their start. Whether a BSW clinician can host you therefore turns on the agreement first: check the site in Typhon, and if it is missing, TAMUCC's new-agreement request becomes the longest step.
Parkland Health's student placement page says Parkland does not place students directly for rotations and points students to their own school. For a TAMUCC student, that sends the question to your clinical faculty rather than to a Parkland office.
Both rules reward students who start early. An orientation window and a school-level conversation each take time that a practice with an existing agreement would not.
Texas Health Resources and community practices
Texas Health Resources publishes its academic affiliation agreements as a PDF list. Read the current version before asking a THR-employed clinician to precept, and compare it with the site's Typhon listing, the record TAMUCC itself relies on for agreement dates.
Outside the large systems, DFW's solo and group family practices, pediatric offices, OB/GYN practices, urgent care and community clinics each follow a simpler route: the clinician's yes, TAMUCC's agreement check and the packet, with no system intake window in between. For many students, that simplicity is the deciding factor.
Whatever the setting, make sure its affiliation agreement covers every week of your term. A contract that ends mid-semester needs attention before you start, not after. If the practice has no agreement yet, ask early who can sign for it, because the "Initiate Affiliation Agreement" request needs the right person on the site's side.
Dallas, Fort Worth and everything between
The census metro carries three city names, Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington, and in practice it behaves like several clinical markets side by side. Pick the one you live or work in and search it thoroughly before crossing to the other side.
Clinical days generally run on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm and have to fit your clinical faculty's schedule as well as your preceptor's. A long cross-metro drive on those days costs time that never shows up in your log, since TAMUCC counts only the hours you spend actively engaged in patient care.
North Texas beyond the metro works the same way on a smaller scale. A family practice in a smaller town can supply pediatric, women's health and geriatric encounters under one roof, which helps when a single preceptor carries you through a term.
Pediatric and women's health options in DFW
For the pediatric-focus course, DFW has both hospital-linked and independent choices: a clinician connected to UT Southwestern or Children's Health, with the tri-party step described above, or a community pediatric or family practice with no intake window. For NURS 5645, OB/GYN offices and women's health clinics fit best, and a family practice with a strong women's health panel can work too.
Whoever you choose must meet TAMUCC's preceptor rule and sign a Preceptor Agreement Packet for that semester, even if they precepted you before. The NURS 5645 guide explains what the women's health course expects.
TAMUCC's program-level minimum covers older adults as well as children and women, at 75 hours or 150 encounters per group, so plan where the geriatric share will come from.

Questions TAMUCC students ask
Can I do clinical hours in Oklahoma if I live near the Red River?
No. Under TAMUCC's MSN handbook, every clinical hour has to be earned at a Texas site. An Oklahoma practice falls outside that rule even if it is closer than anything in Dallas. Look at Texas towns on your side of the river and check each one's agreement in Typhon. More on Texas-only clinicals.
How do I verify a DFW preceptor's license for TAMUCC?
TAMUCC's FNP guide points students to the Texas Board of Nursing look-up for nurse practitioners and the Texas Medical Board look-up for physicians. The license must be active and unencumbered, and the packet needs a copy dated within 30 days. National board certification and two years of independent practice complete the rule.
What if UT Southwestern's window has already closed for my term?
Plan this term around a site that can start sooner, ideally a practice whose Typhon listing already shows contract dates covering your semester, and apply to UT Southwestern in its next window for a later course. A practice with an active TAMUCC agreement needs only the packet and your clinical faculty's clearance.
Can I live outside Texas and do my clinicals in DFW?
TAMUCC's rule is about where the site is: all MSN clinical training happens in Texas. MSN admission also asks for a Texas RN license or a compact RN license with authority to practice in Texas. TAMUCC does not publish a list of states it admits online NP students from, so confirm your situation with the program.
