Nevada nurses and TAMUCC: sort out the license, then plan Texas rotations
Because Nevada never joined the Nurse Licensure Compact, a Nevada RN license stops at the state line, and Texas is where TAMUCC's MSN puts every clinical hour. Nevada's board rules matter only if a DNP practicum is in view.

Start with the license: Nevada is outside the compact
Nevada has neither compact membership nor any compact bill pending, so each Nevada RN license is good in Nevada alone. TAMUCC's catalog asks MSN applicants for one of two things, a Texas RN license or a compact license carrying Texas authorization, and a Nevada credential by itself is neither.
The workable path is a Texas RN license. TAMUCC's MSN handbook permits a conditional start for applicants still waiting on theirs, provided a waiver is requested and the license is issued before the first semester closes; our Texas RN license page compares the catalog and handbook wording. The DNP's Nurse Practitioner track goes further and wants a Texas APRN license.
Where each TAMUCC program's hours land
Texas is the only state where TAMUCC's MSN clinical education and training may take place, according to the July 2026 MSN Student Handbook. From Las Vegas or Reno, each clinical course means a trip to a Texas site for weekday clinic days, with the semester's end as a firm cutoff. See the sources on our Texas-only clinicals page.

TAMUCC keeps no public roster of states it admits online students from, and it asks anyone outside Texas eyeing a licensure program to contact TAMUCC's College of Nursing and Health Sciences before committing.
Full practice in Nevada, with a Schedule II waiting period
AANP scores Nevada as full practice. The one caveat on its Nevada fact sheet concerns Schedule II drugs: a newer NP may prescribe them only under a protocol a physician signs off on, until reaching two years of clinical experience or 2,000 hours of it. Texas, by contrast, is rated restricted, and NP prescribing flows through a prescriptive authority agreement with a delegating physician, which your Texas preceptor will be working inside. NAC 632.703 and a DNP practicum in Nevada
NAC 632.703 has any school running part of its instruction in the state file a board report, and an internet-delivered program may offer clinical instruction in Nevada only with board approval. Faculty teaching there need Nevada licenses. Although the rule applies to every level, the board's September 1, 2026 list of out-of-state schools cleared to run only clinicals in Nevada contains nothing but ADN and BSN programs. TAMUCC's standing was not checked.
Board practice decisions add detail: hands-on care for patients located in Nevada, student clinicals included, requires a Nevada license. A 2005 decision has faculty directing every student experience, limits each on-site preceptor to a pair of students at any one time, and expects the program to give preceptors an orientation and written objectives. The MSN avoids all of it by staying in Texas; a DNP student should ask TAMUCC before counting on Nevada hours and read our DNP practice hours page.

Questions TAMUCC students ask
Can I apply to TAMUCC's MSN with only a Nevada RN license?
On its own, a Nevada license does not match TAMUCC's requirement, since Nevada sits outside the compact. The MSN handbook allows a conditional start for applicants who obtain a Texas RN license by the end of their first semester and request a waiver. Confirm the current rule with TAMUCC before applying.
Can my TAMUCC FNP rotations happen in Las Vegas?
No. Every hour of MSN clinical education and training belongs in Texas under the handbook, and the FNP has no out-of-state alternative. You would study online from Nevada and travel to an approved Texas site, with a preceptor who meets TAMUCC's standard, for each of the four clinical courses.
Will the TAMUCC FNP count toward a Nevada APRN license later?
TAMUCC's licensure disclosure names four places where it has not determined whether the MSN meets FNP education requirements: the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, DC and California. Nevada is covered. Once licensed in Nevada, the Schedule II protocol requirement applies during your first two years, or first 2,000 hours, of clinical experience.
Has Nevada's board approved TAMUCC for clinicals in the state?
That was not checked. The board's September 2026 roster of outside schools approved for clinicals in Nevada lists pre-licensure ADN and BSN programs. It matters only for DNP hours in Nevada, since the MSN stays in Texas, so ask TAMUCC and the Nevada State Board of Nursing before planning any Nevada practicum.
