Online in Wisconsin, clinical terms in Texas
Because TAMUCC's MSN confines clinical and field hours to Texas and offers no out-of-state clinical track, Wisconsin residents can take the coursework from home but not the clinicals. The rule's wording is on Texas-only clinicals.

From APNP to APRN: Wisconsin's 2026 change
Since September 1, 2026, when 2025 Wisconsin Act 17 came into force, Wisconsin's licensing agency (DSPS) has issued APRN licenses tied to one of four roles, and former APNP licenses now carry the APRN title. Independent practice, meaning work without a collaborating physician, is a second step with its own application and a Board decision. AANP's fact sheet still lists Wisconsin as reduced practice, built on a collaborative physician relationship, and notes the new law.
Texas, where your TAMUCC rotations run, is restricted: NPs prescribe under agreements with a delegating physician and meet with that physician at least monthly. Texas NP practice covers what that looks like inside the clinic.
Your Wisconsin license and TAMUCC admission
Wisconsin's multistate license became available January 19, 2018, the same day the enhanced compact took hold in Texas. Hold it with Wisconsin as your declared home, and you may work in Texas as an RN, which is the compact route TAMUCC's MSN accepts. Advanced practice licensure stays state by state. The APRN Compact has not passed in Wisconsin, and TAMUCC's DNP Nurse Practitioner track requires a Texas APRN license on top of whatever you hold at home.
N 1.06: Wisconsin approves out-of-state schools
Wisconsin regulates graduate programs from elsewhere. Its DSPS form for out-of-state schools (3067-OEE, April 2026 revision) cites N 1.06 of the administrative code: such schools need Board of Nursing approval whether they train practical nurses, associate or bachelor's RNs, or graduate students, and once approved they file a self-evaluation report to stay approved. Wisconsin also wants clinical faculty and preceptors to hold its own license or a practice privilege valid there.
TAMUCC's status on Wisconsin's approved list is unconfirmed. The MSN never needs it, since its clinicals are in Texas. If you hope to complete DNP practice hours in Wisconsin, raise it with the DNP program first; DNP practice hours lists what a practice site must also supply.

Not for the MSN. TAMUCC keeps all FNP, Nurse Educator and Leadership clinical hours in Texas, and a Wisconsin practicum would also bring Wisconsin's N 1.06 approval rule into play. Plan to live in a Texas city for each clinical term while taking your coursework online from home.
Does Wisconsin's APRN law change anything about TAMUCC?
It changes your license back home, not TAMUCC's rules. Since September 1, 2026, Wisconsin issues APRN licenses by role, and independent practice needs a separate application and Board approval. TAMUCC's Texas clinical rule, and the Texas APRN license its DNP Nurse Practitioner track requires, stay the same.
Does my Wisconsin multistate license satisfy TAMUCC's MSN requirement?
It can, since TAMUCC's MSN admission takes a compact RN license that includes the right to practice in Texas. Confirm your license is multistate and that Wisconsin is the home state on it. The FNP certificate page lists a Texas nursing license, and TAMUCC reviews every application on its own terms.
Will a TAMUCC FNP meet Wisconsin's education requirement for APRN licensure?
