Washington nurses and TAMUCC: WABON's list, the compact and Texas rotations
For a Washington nurse, TAMUCC's MSN means classes at home and clinical terms in Texas, because the MSN keeps every clinical hour there. Washington adds a wrinkle of its own: WABON must approve out-of-state programs before they place students in Washington, and TAMUCC was absent from its September 2026 list. Here is how each fact affects your plans.

Washington address, Texas clinical calendar
Coursework is online, so where you live matters only once clinical courses begin. From then on the MSN requires Texas: TAMUCC confines its clinical and field hours to the state and offers no out-of-state option, as our Texas-only clinicals page explains.

Before applying, contact TAMUCC's College of Nursing and Health Sciences. TAMUCC asks this of anyone weighing a licensure program from outside their home state, and it publishes no list of states it admits online students from.
WABON approval and where TAMUCC stands
Washington's rule, WAC 246-840-571, makes WABON approval a precondition for any distance program from another state that wants to place students in Washington for clinical or practice experience. Approval asks a lot: an application, proof of equivalence to Washington's own programs, in-state supervision and evaluation of students, continuing national accreditation and a yearly report. The approved list mixes RN-BSN, MSN and NP tracks, those programs may place only Washington residents, and WABON weighs exceptions individually.
The September 21, 2026 edition of WABON's out-of-state approvals did not include TAMUCC. For the MSN that changes nothing, since its hours are Texas-bound anyway. It matters if you hope to log DNP practice hours at home, and a WABON rulemaking notice from December 2025, which targets clinical placement barriers among other things, means the details may shift.
The compact reached Washington in 2024
Washington's compact membership began January 31, 2024, per NCSBN's table. Once Washington is your declared home state and you hold its multistate license, you may work as an RN in Texas on that privilege, the compact route TAMUCC's MSN admission accepts. Nurse practitioners have no equivalent. Washington has not enacted the APRN Compact, which cannot start until seven states join, and a Texas APRN license stays single-state, so DNP Nurse Practitioner applicants need that Texas license.
ARNP practice in Washington, and its preceptor standard
In Washington the NP title is ARNP, and AANP rates the state full practice. Texas is restricted, so your Texas preceptor prescribes under an agreement with a delegating physician; Texas NP practice explains the model.
WABON wants anyone precepting an ARNP student in Washington to hold a clean, active ARNP, MD or DO license, or the out-of-state equivalent, and to be neither kin nor a personal friend of the student. Out-of-state schools teaching ARNP practice in Washington must also use faculty licensed there as ARNPs. TAMUCC's FNP rule lines up on family ties, barring relatives and workplace supervisors, and adds board certification and two years of independent practice.
Washington's systems, metros and preceptor grant
UW Medicine and MultiCare are major systems, as are PeaceHealth, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and Renton-based Providence, which now includes Providence Swedish. The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro is by far the largest, followed by Spokane, Washington's slice of the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro area, and Kennewick-Richland. These describe the market; none is offered as a TAMUCC site.
A legislature-created grant that WABON administers reimburses experienced preceptors, ARNPs, RNs and LPNs with a year or more in practice, per student once 80 precepted hours are reached. Per WABON, students of programs based outside Washington fall outside it, even when the precepting happens in-state.

Can I earn TAMUCC FNP hours at a Washington clinic?
The MSN keeps all 630 FNP clinical hours in Texas. Washington separately requires WABON approval before an outside school can send students to its clinics, and TAMUCC was absent from the September 2026 approvals. Plan on living in Texas for each clinical term while you study online from home.
Has WABON approved TAMUCC for Washington clinicals?
TAMUCC did not appear on WABON's September 21, 2026 roster of approved out-of-state nursing programs. That roster governs clinical placements inside Washington, not online coursework, and TAMUCC's state authorization page lists Washington among its NC-SARA states. Check WABON's current version, since the board is revising these rules.
Does a Washington multistate license meet TAMUCC's admission rule?
It can, because TAMUCC's MSN accepts a compact RN license carrying authorization to work in Texas. The license must be multistate, with Washington as your home state. The FNP certificate page and the DNP Nurse Practitioner track ask for Texas licenses, and TAMUCC decides every application.
Could a TAMUCC FNP lead to ARNP licensure in Washington?
TAMUCC's disclosure names just four places where it has not determined whether the MSN meets FNP certification requirements: DC, the U.S. Virgin Islands, California and Puerto Rico.
