Studying with TAMUCC while you live in Oregon
TAMUCC delivers its graduate nursing coursework online, yet the MSN keeps every clinical hour in Texas, so an Oregon nurse travels south for each FNP rotation. Oregon also sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, which shapes how you meet TAMUCC's license rule. Below: each program from an Oregon address, how Oregon regulates NPs, and whom to contact first.

What each TAMUCC program looks like from Oregon
Coursework comes to you; clinical time does not. TAMUCC's MSN Student Handbook sets Texas as the location for all clinical education and training, and the MSN has no route for rotations anywhere else. The exact wording is on our page about Texas-only clinicals.

TAMUCC has not published a list of the states whose residents it enrolls online. Its guidance for anyone eyeing a licensure program away from home is to consult TAMUCC's nursing college before starting, so treat that conversation as step one.
Outside the compact: sort out the license first
Oregon stands outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, with no membership bill pending on the compact's state map. An Oregon RN license is single-state, so it cannot carry the multistate privilege TAMUCC accepts in place of a Texas license. For most Oregon nurses, the practical path into the MSN runs through a Texas RN license; the license page explains TAMUCC's admission wording.
Advanced practice licensing is a separate track. Only five states have signed on to the APRN Compact so far, Oregon not among them, and it stays dormant until a seventh joins. Either way, TAMUCC's DNP Nurse Practitioner track expects a Texas APRN license.
How Oregon regulates nurse practitioners
AANP places Oregon in its full practice category, so NPs there diagnose, treat and prescribe under the nursing board's license alone. Texas works differently. AANP rates it restricted, and Texas NPs prescribe through agreements in which a physician delegates that authority.
Your Texas NP preceptors work inside that physician-agreement model, while the Oregon license you return to carries more independence. Texas NP practice and preceptors covers the Texas side.
Oregon's board and a possible DNP practicum
If a DNP question ever points toward Oregon, the Oregon State Board of Nursing is direct. Its notice requirement for schools based elsewhere covers programs preparing students for a first PN or RN license, which must notify OSBN ahead of any learning activity and renew that notice annually. Advanced practice programs skip the notice, and so do programs that lead to no license, such as non-APRN master's and DNP programs.
On its APRN questions page, OSBN says an APRN school based in another state needs no board sign-off to send students into Oregon. Oregon used to demand prior authorization for such NP students, but that rule ended in July 2021. Two conditions remain on the board's placement page: anyone teaching nursing in Oregon needs a current Oregon license, and a school must hold Oregon higher education authorization or NC-SARA status before it enrolls Oregonians. TAMUCC has said nothing about DNP hours in Oregon, so its DNP program decides.
Oregon's health systems and metros, for context
Oregon's main metro areas are Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro, which spills into Washington, followed by Salem, Eugene-Springfield and Bend. Care runs through organizations such as Oregon Health & Science University, Legacy Health, Providence's Oregon hospitals, Kaiser Permanente's Northwest region and Samaritan Health Services, named here for context rather than as TAMUCC clinical hosts. Oregon's official sources list no tax credit or stipend for preceptors.

Is there a way to do TAMUCC FNP clinicals in Oregon?
The MSN offers no way to do that. All four FNP clinical courses fall under TAMUCC's Texas rule, so you finish the online coursework from Oregon, then spend each clinical term in Texas with a preceptor TAMUCC's clinical faculty approve.
Does an Oregon RN license meet TAMUCC's admission requirement?
On its own, probably not. TAMUCC's MSN looks for a Texas RN license, or a multistate compact license good for Texas practice, and Oregon's licenses are single-state because Oregon is outside the compact. Plan on applying for a Texas RN license, and confirm the details with TAMUCC's nursing college.
Will a TAMUCC FNP program support NP licensure back in Oregon?
Per TAMUCC's licensure disclosure, the MSN satisfies FNP certification education rules across U.S. jurisdictions apart from California, DC, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, where TAMUCC has made no determination. Oregon is covered, and its board then issues the NP license. See the licensure disclosure.
Is TAMUCC authorized to enroll Oregon residents in online programs?
TAMUCC's state authorization page, archived in March 2026, listed Oregon among its NC-SARA states; only California and Maryland were missing. OSBN expects that kind of authorization before a school enrolls Oregonians. Admission still rests on TAMUCC's own review, and TAMUCC asks out-of-state applicants to contact its nursing college first.
