Michigan nurses weighing TAMUCC's online programs
With Michigan still outside the nurse compact, a Texas RN license is the likely first step toward TAMUCC's MSN. The second fact is fixed: every MSN clinical hour is completed at a Texas site. Where a Michigan resident stands with each program
TAMUCC offers the MSN no clinical option outside Texas, and it keeps no public list of the states it admits online students from. Out-of-state students in licensure programs are asked to reach TAMUCC's College of Nursing and Health Sciences early; make that call step one. The rule's wording sits on Texas-only clinicals.

No compact yet, so plan on a Texas license
For MSN admission TAMUCC takes one of two licenses: a Texas RN license, or a compact license carrying Texas authorization. Michigan has not joined the compact; NCSBN's map shows only pending legislation, House Bill 4246. A Michigan license therefore works in Michigan alone, and a Texas RN license becomes the route most Michigan applicants take. The license page sets out TAMUCC's requirement.
Advanced practice licensing stays state by state as well. The APRN Compact has five enacting states, Michigan is not one, and it needs seven to begin. Wherever you live, the DNP's Nurse Practitioner track requires Texas APRN licensure.
Two restricted states, one familiar model
AANP classes Michigan as restricted: controlled-substance prescriptions from a Michigan NP require a physician's delegation. Texas lands in the same AANP category, and prescribing there hinges on a prescriptive authority agreement signed with a delegating physician. A Michigan nurse will recognize the pattern in the Texas clinics where TAMUCC rotations happen, since the NP precepting you works inside a physician arrangement.
Michigan Medicine (University of Michigan Health) sits alongside Corewell Health, Trinity Health Michigan, McLaren Health Care and Henry Ford Health among the largest systems, spread across the Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint areas. They are named to describe the market, not as sites that host TAMUCC students.
Preceptor incentives are thin. A state pilot run by MDHHS's Office of Nursing Programs with Michigan State University paid preceptors of that university's NP students, and it is now complete. No Michigan tax credit for precepting appears in official sources.
Coming back to Michigan as an NP
Michigan's NP specialty certification rests on two pieces: a current Michigan RN license and national certification from one of the certifying bodies the Board recognizes. Getting that RN license adds Michigan-only steps, namely a criminal history check, a single training on recognizing trafficking victims, and implicit bias instruction (two hours, finished within five years of issue).
Michigan's Board recognizes schools from other states by national accreditation, whether CCNE, ACEN or CNEA, rather than by its own approval, and TAMUCC lists CCNE accreditation for the BSN, the MSN, the DNP and its post-graduate APRN certificate. Questions TAMUCC students ask
Can I do TAMUCC FNP clinical rotations in Michigan?
TAMUCC requires every MSN clinical hour to take place in Texas, so Michigan rotations are not an option in any of its MSN tracks or the FNP certificate. You can study online from Michigan, but you would live in a Texas city for each rotation. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth are two common choices.
Does Michigan belong to the nurse compact?
Not yet. NCSBN's map lists Michigan with pending compact legislation, House Bill 4246, but no membership. A Michigan RN license is valid only in Michigan, so it cannot serve as the compact license TAMUCC's MSN admission mentions. Most Michigan applicants would look at a Texas RN license instead.
Might DNP practice hours count if completed in Michigan?
TAMUCC's DNP documents contain no Texas-only rule, and no Michigan Board rule on schools from other states placing students there turned up in official sources. A Michigan organization would also have to write TAMUCC a Letter of Support and supply a community facilitator. Get the DNP program's approval first. See DNP practice hours.
Will a TAMUCC FNP program let me practice as an NP in Michigan?
Michigan is covered by TAMUCC's licensure disclosure, which says the MSN meets the educational bar for FNP certification there.
