Studying at TAMUCC from Indiana
The dividing line is the precepted course. Lectures and assignments reach Indiana through TAMUCC's online courses; a TAMUCC clinical course needs a Texas site and preceptor, because the MSN Student Handbook keeps clinical education and training inside Texas. Enrollment from Indiana is not something TAMUCC's website settles either way. Its guidance for nurses living beyond Texas who want a licensure program is an early conversation with CONHS, so a Hoosier applicant starts there.
Indiana's 2020 compact entry and your TAMUCC application
Indiana began honoring the Nurse Licensure Compact on July 1, 2020. An Indiana resident holding a multistate RN license can therefore work in Texas on it, and that license fits the catalog's admission line for TAMUCC's MSN. The MSN handbook describes the requirement as a Texas license and gives conditionally admitted students their first semester to get one, so an Indiana applicant should read our Texas RN license guide before applying.
Advanced practice sits outside the compact, so an Indiana NP applying to TAMUCC's DNP Nurse Practitioner track would first need Texas APRN licensure.
Collaboration in Indiana, delegation in Texas
Indiana's AANP rating is reduced practice, so at least one element of an Indiana NP's practice runs through a regulated collaborative agreement with a physician. Texas sits a step further along AANP's scale, rated restricted, with prescriptive authority agreements and a delegating physician behind every Texas NP who prescribes. Indiana's board keeps to pre-licensure programs
Indiana's State Board of Nursing accredits in-state programs whose graduates sit for an initial RN or LPN license. By its own description it reviews no RN-BSN or graduate nursing programs, and its rules on eligible programs, 848 IAC 1-2-4, speak only to pre-licensure RN and PN education. No board approval step turned up for a graduate program from another state placing students in Indiana.
For TAMUCC's MSN that is academic, since the hours are Texas hours. For a TAMUCC DNP student it removes one barrier to Indiana practice hours but not the main one: TAMUCC has to agree first, and TAMUCC's DNP materials name no required location for practice hours. See our DNP practice hours page.
From Indianapolis to a Texas clinical term
In Indiana, nurses build careers at IU Health, Parkview, Franciscan Health, Ascension's St. Vincent hospitals and the Community network, from Indianapolis and Fort Wayne to the Indiana slices of the Chicago and Louisville metros. Experience there travels well into a TAMUCC application, but those systems are not TAMUCC clinical sites.
The Texas side takes planning. TAMUCC runs 16-week fall and spring terms, its MSN handbook says courses are taught once a calendar year, and CastleBranch compliance must be current every semester. A missed clinical course can set a plan back by a year, which makes an early preceptor search the best protection an Indiana student has.

Can I complete TAMUCC FNP rotations at an Indiana clinic?
No. An Indiana clinic cannot host TAMUCC MSN hours, because the handbook anchors clinical training in Texas. Hoosiers take coursework online and travel for every precepted course, from the first 90-hour course through the 270-hour integrated capstone.
Does the Indiana board need to approve TAMUCC?
No approval step applies. Indiana's board accredits only in-state pre-licensure programs and, by its own description, reviews no graduate nursing programs, and TAMUCC's MSN keeps its hours in Texas anyway. A DNP student hoping for Indiana hours should still clear the idea with TAMUCC first, since the university sets where its practice hours may happen.
Will a TAMUCC FNP qualify me to practice as an NP in Indiana?
Indiana is inside the positive part of TAMUCC's disclosure: for FNP certification, the MSN supplies the required education in every state but California, and TAMUCC reserves judgment on California, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Indiana license and its collaboration rules come from Indiana's licensing agency and board, so review them before graduation.
How long would I need to stay in Texas for each clinical course?
TAMUCC does not publish a fixed schedule. Clinical hours generally run Monday to Friday during business hours, they must be finished inside the semester, and the four FNP clinical courses carry 90, 135, 135 and 270 hours. Plan around full 16-week terms; your clinical faculty and preceptor set the actual days.
