TAMUCC's nursing programs for Idaho residents
Boise sits a long way from Corpus Christi, and TAMUCC's MSN keeps all of its clinical hours at the Texas end of that trip. Idaho nurses can study the coursework from home; the precepted part asks for time in Texas. What follows sorts out the license, the practice-law contrast and the few Idaho rules that could still matter.

The short version for Idaho
Every TAMUCC MSN track, the Family Nurse Practitioner option included, completes its clinical education in Texas. For someone living in Boise or Coeur d'Alene, that turns each clinical course into a stretch of weeks in a Texas city, with weekday clinic days and hours that cannot spill into the next term. No TAMUCC page says which home states it will enroll online students from, and admission from Idaho is never assured. TAMUCC's standing request is that out-of-state nurses eyeing a licensure program speak with CONHS first, so an Idaho applicant's opening move is that call.
An Idaho compact license and TAMUCC admission
Idaho's compact membership dates to January 19, 2018. In practice, an Idaho resident's multistate RN license also covers Texas. The catalog's admission line is satisfied by that; the MSN handbook's line instead centers on a Texas-issued license, with a first-semester deadline for conditional admits, so an Idaho applicant should ask which governs. The compact stops at the RN level. A DNP applicant on the Nurse Practitioner track needs an APRN license issued by Texas, which is not multistate.
Full practice in Idaho, a delegating physician in Texas
AANP lists Idaho among the full practice states. Texas is listed as restricted, and a Texas NP's prescribing rests on a signed agreement with a delegating physician, known as a prescriptive authority agreement. Your Texas preceptor works inside that model, and if you stay in Texas after graduating, so will you. The Texas NP practice guide explains how it affects precepting.
Idaho's large systems include Saint Alphonsus Health System, St. Luke's Health System and, in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Health. The state's metro areas are Boise City, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls. Idaho experience makes a strong introduction to a Texas preceptor, though these systems are not TAMUCC sites.
Idaho's board rules, if a DNP question comes up
Idaho's program-approval rules cover schools offered in Idaho and have no specific clause on clinical placements by programs from other states. In a section headed Out of State/Online Nursing Programs, the Board of Nursing's page sends schools based elsewhere to a licensing email address for requirements.
A few related rules are clear. An RN with an Idaho license or compact privilege, studying in an APRN program with national accreditation, may carry out advanced practice duties built into that curriculum. A 2024 board education policy expects clinical preceptors to hold a license at the student's target level or higher, and faculty with primary responsibility for APRN role courses to hold an Idaho APRN license.

Questions TAMUCC students ask
Can an Idaho nurse do TAMUCC FNP clinicals near Boise?
No. Boise-area clinics are off the table for TAMUCC's MSN, whose handbook ties clinical training to Texas with no published exception. An Idaho resident keeps up with coursework remotely and moves to an approved Texas site, with a qualified Texas preceptor, for each clinical course.
Does Idaho's board have to approve TAMUCC?
Not for anything TAMUCC's MSN does, since its clinical hours are completed in Texas. Idaho's approval rules cover programs offered in Idaho and say nothing specific about outside programs' clinical placements; the board's page directs schools located elsewhere to a licensing email for requirements. A DNP question about Idaho hours starts with TAMUCC, not the board.
Will TAMUCC's FNP meet Idaho's requirements if I practice there later?
Idaho sits among the states where, by TAMUCC's professional licensure disclosure, the MSN fulfills the education needed for FNP certification; the disclosure leaves only California, Puerto Rico, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands undetermined. Your Idaho APRN license comes from the Idaho Board of Nursing, so review its application requirements as graduation nears.
Could a preceptor I know in Idaho supervise any of my TAMUCC hours?
