Who does what in TAMUCC's clinical process
TAMUCC spreads clinical work across several titles. Your clinical faculty member clears you and grades the clinical, the FNP Clinical Coordinator is the preceptors' main contact and signs the hours log, a data specialist runs Typhon and CastleBranch, and the Affiliation Agreement Liaison looks after contracts. Knowing which title owns which question saves you days of back and forth.

Which title answers which question
Most clinical questions have an obvious owner once you know TAMUCC's titles. The FNP Student Clinical Guide lists its contacts by role, and this page follows it using titles only, because TAMUCC's own pages disagree about who holds some of these positions.
| Your question | Title to ask |
|---|---|
| Is my site or preceptor approved, and may I start? | Your assigned clinical faculty member |
| My preceptor has questions about precepting for TAMUCC | FNP Clinical Coordinator |
| Who signs the Clinical Hours Log? | You, your preceptor and the FNP Clinical Coordinator |
| My Typhon account or CastleBranch tracker has a problem | Student Success Data Specialist |
| My site's contract expires during the semester | Affiliation Agreement Liaison (Dean's Office Administrative Assistant) |
| Registration, program plan or graduation | CONHS graduate academic advisor |
| Approval of a DNP practice experience | DNP Scholarly Project Committee Chair |
Clinical faculty and the FNP Clinical Coordinator
Your clinical faculty member, full-time or adjunct, is assigned according to location and makes the decisions that shape your semester. They approve the site and the preceptor, clear you to begin, make at least one evaluative site visit and grade the clinical portion satisfactory or unsatisfactory. The clinical faculty and clearance guide covers the assignment and the start.
The FNP Clinical Coordinator is an Assistant Clinical Professor, listed in the CONHS directory as FNP Program and Clinical Coordinator. Both FNP guides name this role as the main contact for preceptors. The coordinator also signs the Clinical Hours Log at the end of each semester, alongside you and your preceptor, and that signed log is what produces the preceptor's hours certificate.
Preceptors belong on this map as well. The FNP Preceptor Guide asks them to supervise in line with state law and site policy, give feedback during the rotation, complete end-of-semester evaluations, and review and authenticate everything you document.
The records side: Typhon, CastleBranch and contracts
The Student Success Data Specialist, called the Data Entry Specialist in the CONHS Faculty and Staff Handbook, administers Typhon and CastleBranch for the college. The role enters site and preceptor records in Typhon and manages compliance data, and the handbook places it under the Student Success Coordinator. Account trouble in either system starts here; the CastleBranch compliance guide and the Typhon site directory guide cover the systems themselves.
The Dean's Office Administrative Assistant acts as the Affiliation Agreement Liaison. The FNP guide sends students to this role when a site's contract will expire during the semester, and the faculty handbook gives it the college's contract database, known as Blue Ridge, along with renewals. New agreements begin with TAMUCC's DocuSign request, described in the affiliation agreements guide.
The Academic Administrative Assistant of Graduate Studies appears in the FNP guide as FNP Administration and serves as the Nursing Practice Department's general contact. Separately, every Preceptor Agreement Packet passes through administration before the preceptor receives it, which is why the signature request reaches the preceptor one to two business days after you send it. The FNP Clinical Coordinator, the Typhon and CastleBranch administrator and the affiliation liaison all keep offices in Island Hall on the Island campus.
Program leadership and advising
Above the day-to-day roles sit the program coordinators. The MSN Student Handbook (July 2026) assigns the MSN Academic Program Coordinators "oversight of clinical practice experiences," and barriers to attending required campus events go to the program coordinator as well. For the DNP, the DNP Academic Program Coordinator oversees the program, and the Scholarly Project Committee Chair approves every practice experience and makes sure hours are documented on time.
The Department Chair of Nursing Practice, currently an interim appointment, leads the graduate nursing department. At the top of the chain of command is the Associate Dean for Nursing and Chief Nurse Administrator, shown in the current directory as Interim Dean and Chief Nurse Administrator.
For registration, your program plan in the online Degree Planner and graduation, CONHS graduate academic advisors are the contact. Admission and progression decisions belong to the college's Admission Progression and Academic Standards (APAS) Committee. Pre-licensure BSN students fall under a separate department, Nursing Education, with its own chair and BSN program coordinator.
The placement coordinator title, and why it confuses people
One title in TAMUCC's paperwork needs a note. The CONHS Faculty and Staff Handbook (reviewed October 2023) describes a Nursing Clinical Placement Coordinator who "is responsible for clinical placement within appropriate facilities for undergraduate and graduate students." Read on its own, that sounds like a placement office for graduate students.
Every current student-facing source points the other way. The FNP Student Clinical Guide (January 2026), the 2026-27 catalog and the DNP handbook all make graduate students responsible for securing their own site and preceptor, and today's CONHS directory lists no such title. The faculty handbook text reads as an internal job description, possibly reflecting BSN placement, where the program assigns clinicals. Rely on the student guides; the finding your own preceptor guide explains what TAMUCC does provide.
Where your placement advisor fits
Under TAMUCC's student guides the search itself sits with you, and that search is the job we do. Your placement advisor finds a Texas preceptor and site that fit your course, then prepares what each TAMUCC role will need to see: preceptor credentials for your clinical faculty member, agreement status and the right signer for a new contract request, and the CV and license copy the packet requires.
We also tell you which title each question and document belongs with, so nothing stalls on the wrong desk. TAMUCC's clinical faculty give the final clearance; we make sure what reaches them is complete and fits the rules the first time. Start with the form below or read how it works.
Questions TAMUCC students ask
Who is my main contact for TAMUCC FNP clinicals?
For your own rotation, your assigned clinical faculty member: they approve your site and preceptor, clear you to start and grade the clinical. The FNP Clinical Coordinator is the main contact for your preceptor and signs the end-of-semester hours log. Typhon and CastleBranch issues go to the Student Success Data Specialist.
Why are TAMUCC contacts listed here by title only?
TAMUCC's own pages disagree about who holds some roles; the catalog and the program web pages, for example, name different people as FNP program coordinator. Titles stay accurate when people change jobs. For the current holder of any title, check the CONHS directory or the contacts page in the FNP Student Clinical Guide.
Does TAMUCC have a clinical placement coordinator for graduate students?
Not in the current CONHS directory. A 2023 faculty handbook describes a Nursing Clinical Placement Coordinator with duties for undergraduate and graduate students, but TAMUCC's current FNP guide, catalog and DNP handbook all make graduate students responsible for securing their own site and preceptor.
Who handles an affiliation agreement that is about to expire?
The Affiliation Agreement Liaison, a role held by the Dean's Office Administrative Assistant. TAMUCC's FNP guide tells students to notify this role when a site's contract will run out during the semester, since the liaison handles extensions and renewals through the college's contract database.
Who approves DNP practice hours at TAMUCC?
The DNP Scholarly Project Committee Chair approves all practice experiences and oversees timely documentation of hours in the clinical experience platform, which DNP syllabi identify as Typhon. The DNP Academic Program Coordinator oversees the program as a whole. See DNP practice hours.
