Studying with TAMUCC from Georgia: what the Texas clinical rule means
TAMUCC teaches its MSN Family Nurse Practitioner courses online, yet every precepted hour of that program is spent in Texas. A Georgia nurse can keep up with lectures from home, but rotations mean weekday time at a Texas site. Here is how that plays out, and where Georgia's own rules still reach you.

A Georgia address, Texas rotations
TAMUCC's MSN Student Handbook keeps clinical education inside Texas, a point the catalog repeats for Nurse Educator and Leadership field work, and a Georgia mailing address does not bend it. Each rotation needs a Texas preceptor, a Texas site and a way to be there on clinical weekdays. Our Texas-only clinicals page traces the rule to its sources.

TAMUCC posts no list of states it enrolls online students from. Georgians thinking of applying should first put their plans to CONHS, the university's nursing college, which is exactly what TAMUCC recommends for licensure-program applicants living outside Texas.
Compact licenses and NP rules in Georgia
Since January 19, 2018, a multistate RN license from Georgia has carried practice privileges across compact states, Texas among them. That fits TAMUCC's catalog, which accepts either a Texas-issued RN license or a multistate one carrying the right to practice in Texas. AANP groups Georgia with the restricted states: the state ties NP practice to a physician, through delegation or supervision, and caps Schedule II prescribing. Texas sits in the same AANP category, with prescriptive authority agreements tying each NP to a delegating physician, so the physician-linked model will not be new to you.
Georgia's board and graduate programs from other states
Georgia's board neither approves nor regulates post-licensure education, APRN programs included, which lets a graduate program based in another state place Georgia students without first seeking board sign-off. Licensure is what Georgia checks. A resident earning clinical hours inside the state for an outside program must be licensed by Georgia or hold multistate privileges from another compact state, faculty and preceptors face the same test, and APRN clinical teaching falls to nurses holding Georgia APRN authorization.
TAMUCC's MSN never meets that rule, because its hours are Texas hours. A DNP student is a different case, since TAMUCC publishes no Texas-only sentence for DNP practice hours. Settle any Georgia plan with the program first; the DNP Nurse Practitioner track page covers the rest.
Georgia employers, a Georgia tax credit and your Texas base
Georgia's big nursing employers include Emory Healthcare, Piedmont, Northside Hospital, Grady and Wellstar, and the Atlanta area is far larger than Savannah, Augusta or Columbus. Such names help you describe your background to a Texas preceptor; none is a TAMUCC clinical site.
Under Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program, licensed doctors, dentists, APRNs and PAs can claim a state credit for unpaid, community-based teaching. Augusta University's AHEC reports that HB 144 reworked and extended it, with annual registration from 2026. Only students enrolled at Georgia schools in medicine, dentistry, NP or PA education count, so a TAMUCC rotation sits outside it.

Questions TAMUCC students ask
Can I complete TAMUCC FNP clinical hours in Georgia?
No. Georgia sites cannot count toward TAMUCC's MSN: the handbook places clinical training in Texas, and no Georgia or other out-of-state alternative is published. A Georgia resident studies online and travels to an approved Texas site for every rotation, so plan housing in Texas before the first clinical term.
Does a Georgia multistate RN license meet TAMUCC's admission requirement?
The catalog accepts a multistate license that authorizes practice in Texas, and Georgia issues those. The MSN handbook instead refers to a Texas license, with conditional admission for students who obtain one during the first semester, so ask which wording governs your cohort. The compact covers RNs only, which is why DNP NP track applicants still need a Texas APRN license.
Will a TAMUCC FNP program meet Georgia's requirements if I move back?
Per TAMUCC's published licensure disclosure, a Georgia graduate is covered: the MSN meets the educational bar for FNP certification in all states except California, and the other open questions are Puerto Rico, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. APRN authorization itself comes from the Georgia Board of Nursing, so review its current requirements before you graduate.
Could a clinician I know in Georgia precept me and claim the state credit?
Not for a TAMUCC MSN rotation. Those hours must be earned in Texas, so your preceptor practices at a Texas site, and Georgia's credit covers only students in Georgia programs. A Georgia colleague with Texas connections can still point you toward clinicians who fit TAMUCC's preceptor requirements.
